Costa Rica’s MedDevice Forum 2023 reunited the top representatives of the MedTech sector
May 2023. Costa Rica was the host country for the MedDevice Forum 2023, organized by specialized magazine MPO (Medical Product Outsourcing). Evolution Free Zone was a co-organizer of the Summit.
The two-day event brought together almost 400 locals and international visitors, in which, in three panels and five conferences, experts in the medical device field explored the benefits of Costa Rica as a host country, and the country’s ability to put conscious businesses to work.
According to Howard Revitch, group publisher of MPO magazine and the event’s organizer, the 2023 edition of the MPO Summit exceeded everyone’s expectations, having one of the best attendances in the history of the event.
We were in the mid-up to 300 guests and I’ve had the chance to speak to a lot of the tabletop sponsors to ask if they ended meeting new people at the event and the answer is always yes. So, they made some good contacts with new people that they didn’t know,” Revitch says.
The event highlighted the importance that the MedTech sector has played for Costa Rica’s economy, being positioned as the main export product between goods and services (24%), well above more traditionally recognized products for the region such as pineapple (4 %) and coffee (2%).
One of the key aspects that has allowed Costa Rica to become a hub for the industry is the human resource available, recognized as the top workforce talent in Latin America by the 2019 Global Competitiveness Report Additionally, the guests understood that operating in our country is to take advantage of the wonderful workforce that we have, since Costa Rica has the top workforce talent in Latin America, according to WEF’s 2019 Global Competitiveness Report.
As primarily US based companies, when you’re looking at setting up an establishment there’s a lot of concerns: taxes, regulations, labor… Those are just a few of the considerations made when decision-making. Hearing what Costa Rica has to offer from the government and other important agencies, as well as being here, will give them answers they didn’t have before,” Revitch closes.
The event aimed to bring together key stakeholders to foster collaboration, share knowledge, and explore innovative ideas in the MedTech industry, and we’re confident that the connections and relationships forged during the event will lead to exciting opportunities for collaboration and growth in the future.
