Previously Costa Rica has been recognized as one of the Central American countries with the highest income from Foreign Direct Investment. Between 1990 and 2016, the country achieved a notable 4.3% of its GDP from FDI, ranking second in the region, just behind Panama, which reached 6.2% of GDP in FDI income.
