June, 2023. Evolution Free Zone joined forces with various community stakeholders in the canton of Grecia, home to the Free Zone , to plant 350 native trees on its boundary with the North Interamerican Highway or Route 1.
This action is part of the tree planting plan contemplated in the sustainability strategy of this business park , which plans to plant more than 2,500 native trees. CODE Development Group, developer of the project, frames these actions within its vision of leaving a positive impact on the community, the environment, and the economy.
At Evolution Free Zone we believe in the sustainable development of the community to which we belong. This implies that in addition to generating quality employment in some of the most innovative companies in the world, we seek to protect and preserve natural ecosystems. This tree planting allows us to generate connectivity with the El Achiote Interurban Biological Corridor and also protects the water resources of the area and mitigates the effects of climate change”, underscored Carlos Wong, Managing Director of CODE Development Group.
About 160 people participated in the activity, including employees of CODE and OKAY Industries , which will be based in the Free Trade Zone, as well as members of the ASADA of Tacares Sur, students from the Cataluña and Eduardo Pinto schools, the Foundation for Development in Balance with the Environment (FUNDEMA), the Primates of Grecia group, and the Municipality of said canton.
According to Wong, native tree species from the region were selected for planting in an area of almost 2,000 square meters next to Route 1, on the westbound exit road that is being built to facilitate the mobility of people who work in or visit the park. These trees will help protect the biodiversity of the area’s flora and fauna.
He also explained that this activity supports the actions of the El Achiote Interurban Biological Corridor, which seeks to preserve the forest remnants of the Achiote and Rosales River micro-basins, protecting the passage of species between the different protected wildlife areas in the area.
Evolution Free Zone is a high-tech business park committed to sustainability and the latest advances in construction. It started its infrastructure and building works in Tacares de Grecia in December 2022.
This Free Trade Zone has been getting involved in the community to improve the quality of life and well-being of the residents of the western region of the country. Over the next 15 years, it will generate more than 20,000 quality jobs that will benefit the inhabitants of Alajuela, San Ramón, Grecia, Atenas, Naranjo, Palmares, Poás, Zarcero and Sarchí, among other places in this region.
